Smascherati!

The cultural association ‘Smascherati!’ APS aims to make theatre a place for intercultural exchange. Founded in 1989 in the city of Perugia by artists from different theatrical backgrounds, we have always worked to bring together human experiences and very different cultures through theatre and artistic expression. The most important collaborations have been with some theatre masters and artists (Eugenio Barba, Pierre Byland, Marisa Fabbri, Jacques Lecoq) and dance theatre (Malou Airaudo, Bénédicte Billiet and Julie Ann Stanzak of the Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch).

In recent years, the association has collaborated with many institutions, at local, national and international level..

The main activities focus on intercultural communication and the social inclusion of disadvantaged groups, with an emphasis on respect for cultural diversity. This approach led to the creation in 1994 of Human Beings – an international workshop of intercultural theatre and in 2011 the creation of Teatro Rifugio – a protected place which tells the story of exile, a workshop that aims to work with refugees and asylum seekers. Every year our workshops result in original final theatrical performances, characterised by the richness that the different cultures participants bring with them.
